Katie and Dan pre-wedding shoot in Roundhay Park

These two said they were the types who aren’t comfortable having their photos taken, so a pre-wedding shoot in Roundhay Park was arranged to calm their nerves. We had a wander round the lakes, to the bandstand and in the woods. We admired the ducks and swans, laughed at ourselves (well, mainly at me in and my dramas that had caused me to almost be late, long story) and forgot about having photos taken at all really. Nerves duly calmed, we moved on to their wedding day full of excitement and confidence. And that’s coming up soon!

    Puppy portraits dog photography

I know, I know, they are beyond cute. But I have to admit this was probably the most challenging photoshoot I have ever done by quite a margin. NINE korthals griffon puppies! And their lovely patient mum. Absolutely brilliant fun and totally impossible to get them all together. Also, my jumper was in shreds. Never again… oh go on then.Korthals griffon puppy

Chateau du Doux wedding – Kayleigh and Brett

Looking back on this Chateau du Doux wedding now, I’m reminded of how beautiful it was. Chateau du Doux is such a special venue with views over the Dordogne valley to die for. Brett and Kayleigh celebrated their wedding there on an early October day. It was still blissfully warm and the light was that quintessential French glow I love so much. There were laughter and tears in abundance at this wedding and the setting was perfect as the backdrop to their images.

Barbara and Andrew’s wedding at the Sun Pavilion, Harrogate

I love an outdoor ceremony. In France it’s unusual to have anything but, but in Yorkshire it’s a rare treat. Though I don’t know why really as it doesn’t rain as often as you think and maybe  now it’s been made easier for venues to have a licence there will be more ceremonies in the good fresh open air. I do hope so as I’m doing more and more weddings in Yorkshire (never to abandon my French and other destination ones though, don’t worry). Anyway, here’s a brilliant example of how to do it in style in good old blighty. The Sun Pavilion in Harrogate’s gorgeous Valley Gardens has the perfect terrace overlooking the park and Barbara and Andrew chose it as the place to make their wedding vows. These lovely people told me they weren’t very keen on a big fuss, being centre stage or having their photo taken and their wedding was very much all about all their wonderful family and friends as much as them but the truth is that it’s their love for each other that shines through.

Family photography in the colder months – Lake District portraits

So many families book me in the summer for their portraits. But really it doesn’t matter what time of year you choose, every season is makes a beautiful backdrop for a great set of family photographs. These were taken a little while ago on a late November day in the Lake District at a lovely hotel called Overwater Hall. An early flurry of snow had dusted the ground and it was fresh and frankly cold. But the love and laughter that happened when these lovely people came together to celebrate a grandparent’s birthday was enough to warm my heart and to create a relaxed set of images. And as always, involving the pets, makes for a fun and lively shoot.
